1. Maine became more diverse according to new U.S. Census data. The Black and African American populations grew 31 percent and the Latino population grew by 41 percent. Maine is still the whitest state in the nation at 90 percent, followed by Vermont and West Virginia both at 89 percent. (BDN)
2. Lewiston mass shooting survivor Meghan Hutchinson was honored as a Hero Among Us during a Boston Celtics game earlier this month. When chaos erupted and Hutchinson’s daughter Zoey was grazed by a bullet, she positioned furniture and shelves as a barricade to ensure the safety of those sheltering within. The Celtics Hero Among Us program recognizes individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. (BDN)
3. If passed, new legislation, which was submitted by a bi-partisan group of U.S. Senators, would prohibit online bots from buying up event tickets in bulk. It would require up-front price disclosures with a breakdown of all fees. The bill would also ban speculative selling, where ticket resellers list tickets for sale without actually having them on hand. The “Fans First Act” would also include steep penalties for violations. 4. Netflix suffered a 3 hour outage yesterday. Netflix viewers reported problems logging on to the streaming service starting at 5PM. Users experienced the error message until around 8 PM. (TV)
