1. A former postal carrier in South Berwick and Eliot has admitted to stealing cash and gift cards from mail he was supposed to be delivering. He faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.
2. Maine’s iconic 207 area code will continue to be the state’s one and only for at least a few more years, according to a recent review by the North American Numbering Plan Administrator. The semi-annual review extends Maine’s single area code until at least 2033
3. The seafood chain Red Lobster is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. This comes following a series of missteps, including a $20 all-you-can-eat shrimp deal which cost the company more than $11 million in one quarter.
4. UMaine men’s basketball team will face Duke in Cooper Flagg’s collegiate debut. The Blue Devils will greet the Black Bears on Nov. 4 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke approached Maine with the idea for the game because of the Flagg connection. (PH)
