1. The University of Maine is hosting a national summit this week to prevent hazing. According to the organization StopHazing three out of five college students is subject to hazing. Participants of the annual Hazing Prevention Consortium summit are working to lower this number. (NCM)
2. ‘American Idol’ singer Julia Gagnon has released more Maine tour dates. It starts with a show at the Merrill Auditorium on June 30th, and she’ll bring in fellow ‘Idol’ contestants along the way. Julia plans to release the full tour schedule sometime this week. (PH)
3. Maine’s newest Market Basket is set to open on June 14. The new grocery store on Topsham Fair Mall Road in Topsham will be the third Market Basket in Maine, joining locations in Biddeford and Westbrook, and 90th active location overall. (WMTW)
4. Trader Joe’s mini insulated tote bags have sparked a buying frenzy. The bags were introduced this week for $3.99. One shopper posted on social media, “I went in at 9:30 and was told they already sold out of the 400 they got!” Some Trader Joe’s locations are implementing a two-bag buying limit per visit. 5. Dr. Pepper has dethroned Pepsi as the number two soda brand in the United States. Coca-Cola is still the dominant soft drink brand in America. Sprite and Diet Coke round out the top five. (CNN)
