2. More than 30 school districts have voted to ban or restrict the use of cell phones in Maine schools. Students in Bath will be required to use “Yondr Pouches.” Yondr Pouches will be demagnetized after last period, and they’ll gain access to their phones and watches. (WGME)
3. Portland City Council unanimously approved new restrictions on short term rentals. Short-term rentals would be capped at 1.5% of the city’s rental stock (400 to about 290). Existing operators will not lose their licenses, but until the number of operators meets the 1.5% cap, the city would stop approving short-term rental license requests. (PH)
4. The proposed site of a new passenger train station in Portland would be across from the Metro bus hq on St. John Street and connect to Northern Light Mercy Hospital’s campus on the Fore River Parkway. The location would shave 15 minutes off Amtrak Downeaster’s trips. Eliminating 20 train movements daily would save nearly $1 million in labor and fuel costs annually. (PH)
