1. New details have emerged regarding the tragic incident on the Piscataqua River Bridge yesterday. Around 2 a.m., an unidentified man contacted a York 911 dispatcher, claiming that he had been involved in a fight with his wife at their home in Troy, New Hampshire, and that she was dead. By 2:30 a.m., Kittery police found the man parked in the southbound lane of the six-lane bridge. Law enforcement officers closed the bridge and attempted to negotiate with the man for several hours. However, the situation escalated when the man exited his vehicle and raised a firearm. At that point, A Maine State Trooper and two New Hampshire State Troopers used deadly force. Tragically, an 8-year-old boy was discovered deceased inside the man’s car. While it remains unclear who shot the boy, police have confirmed that he was not killed by officers. (PH)
2. A wanted fugitive was arrested in Auburn on Wednesday after attempting a dramatic escape from police. While law enforcement searched an apartment on Main Street, the fugitive, Matthew Gallagher, fled to the roof of the building and jumped to the roof of the neighboring building. Police ordered Gallagher to come down and surrounded the building, prompting him to surrender. (WMTW)
3. Clara Brown, a three-time world champion cyclist from Falmouth, is hoping to medal in the 2024 Paralympics. The Paralympics began Wednesday and will run through Sept. 8. at the same sites used by Olympians at the Paris Games. Brown’s first race is set for Sept. 4. (PH)
