Today for If You Can Hear Her, You Can Be Her, I spoke with Nishat Rahman, founder of the sustainable athleisure brand Ocean & Co!
Nishat shared how her journey began in a very different place, studying pre-med before ultimately deciding to pursue entrepreneurship. After moving from Manhattan to Maine for a more affordable cost of living, she made the decision to shift her focus fully to building her brand.
Through Ocean & Co, Nishat is not only creating sustainable athleisure, but also fostering a sense of community. She hosts events that bring people together, including an upcoming free event on March 21st!
In addition to running her brand, Nishat also manages a successful animal care business, serving more than 200 clients. Balancing both ventures has required dedication, resilience, and a strong work ethic.
As a first-generation woman of color building a business without investors, Nishat spoke candidly about the challenges she has faced. She emphasized the importance of showing up, putting yourself out there, and building connections through networking.
Some of her proudest moments include inspiring others through her work and being featured in publications, milestones that reflect her impact as both a business owner and community leader!
Her advice to young women is to keep going, even when the path is uncertain, and to trust that showing up consistently will open doors.
