Today for If You Can Hear Her, You Can Be Her, I spoke with Portland-based fashion designer Daphne Michelle Designs!
Daphne specializes in creating unique jackets made from vintage quilts and blankets, transforming old textiles into one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art. She shared how her love for fashion started early, recalling a childhood obsession with clothes that eventually led her to study fashion design and production.
Over the years, Daphne has built a following for her creative designs, including custom sports-inspired pieces like her popular Patriots jackets! One of her proudest career moments came when Boston singer Lisa Bello wore one of her Fenway jackets, bringing even more attention to her work.
Like many independent creatives, Daphne also discussed the behind-the-scenes challenges that come with running a business, including keeping up with social media and managing customer communication.
When it comes to advice for young women pursuing their dreams, Daphne encourages persistence. She shared that every career has its ups and downs, but sticking with your passion can lead to incredible opportunities!
