1. Title 42, a Covid-era policy that allowed the U.S. to quickly expel migrants, officially expired Wednesday night. Tens of thousands of migrants had gathered at the U.S.-Mexico border to await the easing of immigration restrictions. The White House has provided a four-page guide titled “Migrant Busing Toolkit for Receiving Cities” to Portland to help manage the influx of asylum seekers. While the guide specifically mentions migrants from the southwest border, Maine’s influx is mostly from African countries. Portland shared the guide with Sanford. (WGME)
2. A TSA officer was hit in the face during an unprovoked attack at the Portland Jetport Monday. Police cited William Barry from Virginia on a state charge. Verbal or physical abuse of TSA employees carries a fine up to $14,950. (WMTW)
3. I-395 in Bangor was covered in milk yesterday morning after a delivery truck crashed. The Oakhurst truck driver was likely speeding when he hit a guardrail and overturned. Exit 3 was closed for several hours. The driver was taken to the hospital; his condition is unknown. (BDN)
4. For the first time since at least 2003, Maine’s two Presidential Scholar winners came from the same high school. Coco Xu and Patrick Wahlig, both seniors at Falmouth High School, are two of the 161 Presidential Scholars nationwide. Xu plans to study math next year at Princeton. Wahlig will study biochemistry at Yale. Both students credited Falmouth High School and its teachers with helping them succeed. (WMTW)
5. Peloton has recalled 2.2 million exercise bikes because of a safety hazard. The company has received reports of bike seats breaking while in use. The malfunction could cause a user to fall off and injure themself. Peloton is offering consumers a free seat post that can be self-installed. (NBC)
