2. The U.S. tops 30.4 million covid-19 cases with more than 552,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported 5 new deaths and 251 new cases on Wednesday bringing Maine’s death toll to 743 with 74 Mainers currently hospitalized. Over 265,000 Mainers have received their final COVID-19 vaccine dose, which represents nearly 20% of the population. (WMTW)
3. The news of a Waterville woman who was crushed by a tree while driving on Friday has made national headlines. Rochelle Hager was a TikTok star who opened up her life to fans on the social network and covered everything from LGBTQ relationships to hot sauce taste testing. The popular TikToker was engaged to Brittanie Lynn Ritchie, 28, and prominently shared videos highlighting their relationship for her 130,000 followers. Ritchie shared a tearful video on Tuesday thanking their audience for their support and addressing the freak accident. (TODAY)
4. Kyle Hamilton, a custodian at Bonny Eagle High School in Standish, is accused of hiding in a ceiling space above a girls bathroom and recording girls changing out of their athletic attire. Two girls entered and noticed a damaged ceiling tile near one of the bathroom stalls. They also noticed a cellphone facing them. (WMTW)
5. La Kermesse in Biddeford and the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland, have been canceled ahead of this summer. Organizers plan to hold the Topsham Fair the second week of August. The Cumberland Fair also plans to open this fall. (WGME)
