1. The House approved The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act late Wednesday. The bill would ban chokeholds and “qualified immunity” for law enforcement and create national standards for policing. (NEWS CENTER)
2. The U.S. tops 28.7 million covid-19 cases with more than 518,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported two new deaths and 147 new cases on Wednesday bringing Maine’s death toll at 705 with 67 Mainers currently hospitalized. (WMTW)

Mills announced that the state will begin vaccinating school staff and licensed child care workers in response to President Biden’s directive that educators receive at least a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the month. Hannaford, Walgreens and Walmart pharmacies have been directed to give exclusive access to available appointments. (WMTW)
4. The Moxie Festival has been canceled for the second consecutive year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Organizers said they expect the festival to return in 2022. (WMTW)
