1. The Electoral College confirmed Joe Biden as the nation’s next president. The presidential electors on Monday gave Biden a solid majority of 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232, the same margin that Trump bragged was a landslide when he won the White House four years ago. (AP)
2. The U.S. tops 16.5 million Covid-19 cases with over 300,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 2 new covid related deaths and 426 new cases on Monday. Maine’s death toll is 259 with 5,542 active cases. 181 Mainers are currently hospitalized w/ covid-19. (WMTW)
3. The first shipments of COVID-19 vaccines arrived at Mercy Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center on Monday. Those hospitals each received 975 doses. Hospital officials are currently working to identify which workers should get it first. Those who regularly interact with coronavirus patients will be prioritized. (WMTW)
4. Starting Wednesday, Boston will return to a modified version of phase two of the state’s reopening plan. Under the tighter restrictions, several kinds of businesses will have to close their doors for at least three weeks including: movie theaters; museums; aquariums; indoor recreational and athletic facilities, sightseeing and tour buses. Angus King is calling on Netflix, Amazon PrimeVideo, Disney +, Apple TV+, Hulu, and HBO Max to provide content for free this holiday season to help encourage people to stay home and slow the spread of the coronavirus.
