1. John Thompson, the legendary Georgetown University men’s basketball coach, has died at the age of 78. Thompson was the first Black head coach to win the NCAA national championship in 1984. He coached NBA first-round picks Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Bill Martin, Sleepy Floyd, Allen Iverson, and Patrick Ewing. “Thanks for saving my life, coach,” Iverson wrote on Instagram Monday. (WASHINGTON POST)

2. Monday was International Overdose Awareness Day, and memorials were placed throughout Portland, honoring those lives who have been lost to drug overdoses in Maine. On the Eastern Prom, there were 259 pieces included on a puzzle spread out across the grass. Each piece represented a death of a drug overdose in Maine. (WGME)

3. The U.S. tops 6 million coronavirus cases with over 183,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported no new deaths and 14 new cases on Monday. Maine’s death toll is 132 w/ 471 active cases. (WMTW)

4. The outbreak at the York County Jail has jumped from 54 cases to 66. Someone affiliated with the jail went to the Millinocket wedding earlier this month, which the Maine CDC says led to the outbreak at the jail. (WGME)

5. UNE is investigating an off-campus party linked to three coronavirus cases. A student at the Biddeford campus tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the party last Wednesday. The university is doing a conduct review related to the party that could result in discipline, including suspension. (WGME)
