1. For the first time since students returned from the holiday break, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maine schools has dropped. The number of COVID-19 patients in critical care fell to its lowest point since Oct. 23.
2. Gov. Janet Mills is proposing to return to Maine taxpayers half of an anticipated $822 million surplus to the people. The givebacks amount to about $500 per person and will be distributed to 800,000 taxpayers.
3. Auburn school buses will return to service on Friday after Maine State Police discovered they were improperly inspected earlier this week. A mechanic for the Auburn School Department has resigned following the investigation into the improper inspections.
4. The Cat ferry will resume service between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia after years long hiatus. The operating season will begin on May 19, with service four days a week until June 22, after which service will be offered daily.
