1. Maine internet service providers will face the strictest consumer privacy protections in the nation under a bill signed Thursday by Gov. Janet Mills, but the new law will almost certainly be challenged in court. The law is unlike any in the nation, as it requires an ISP to obtain consent from a consumer before sharing any data. 2. You’ve heard of the World’s Ugliest Dog contest, right? Well, this year a dog from Maine is in the running. Tostito was accepted to take part in the contest in California. His owner, Molly Horgan from Portland, has started a GoFundMe to get them out west. Molly says the contest isn’t about making fun of ugly dogs, but showing that dogs like Tostito really are beautiful. (WGME)
3. In honor of Friday being National Doughnut Day, Dunkin’ is offering a free doughnut with beverage purchase. Krispy Kreme is also offering free doughnuts, no strings attached. Meanwhile, Entenmann’s is running a “Fan Flavor Challenge” on its website. Whoever submits the winning idea for a new doughnut flavor wins $5,000 and a year’s supply of doughnuts. Not to be outdone, WalMart is giving away 1.2 million free glazed doughnuts across 4,000 stores. Cumberland Farms: Get a free doughnut at select locations between 5 and 10 a.m. on Friday with the purchase of a “dispensed beverage” such as coffee or fountain drinks. (USA Today)
