1. President Barack Obama delivered a zinger-filled eighth and final White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, in which he mocked everyone from Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton to Kendall Jenner. 2. The Indianapolis Colts have drafted Maine-native Trevor Bates. Bates, 22, of Westbrook, most recently played for the University of Maine, where he played defensive end. Bates was the 239th pick overall in the seventh round. The last Mainer to be drafted to the league was Gerry Raymond of Lewiston, in 1982. (WMTW)
3. Sports Authority is closing all of its 450 remaining stores, including its Maine Mall location. Company leaders had originally planned to close 140 stores and two distribution centers when they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March. Leaders said they are now more than $1 billion in debt. A Hollywood film crew will be in Portland on today to shoot scenes for a new movie called “The Witch Files.” The film crew will begin setting up around 2:30 p.m. at the Miss Portland Diner on Marginal Way. Filming will last through the evening, ending around 2 a.m. Tuesday. “The Witch Files” is described as a “dark supernatural high school comedy set in a small town in Maine, which some have compared to ‘The Breakfast Club’ with magic. 5. A study on language has found that knowing slang improves memory. Dr. Antoniou who conducted the study says “Systematically switching between any two forms of language, even quite similar ones, seems to provide the mind with the extra stimulation that leads to higher cognitive performance.” (Complex)
