1. More than 300 people have died and at least 4,000 people have been injured after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck the border region between Iraq and Iran late Sunday. The quake was felt as far away as Turkey and Pakistan. (CNN)
2. Reported cases of the tick-borne disease, anaplasmosis, are swelling in Maine this year. The illness with flu-like symptoms that are similar to Lyme but typically more severe, have jumped from 52 a year in Maine five years ago to 433 this year, through Oct. 24, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Of this year’s 433 cases, 113 were hospitalized, according to Maine CDC statistics. The deer tick, the same tick that’s a carrier for the bacteria that cause Lyme disease, is also a carrier for anaplasmosis. (Press Herald)

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un issued a statement over the weekend that referred to President Donald Trump as a “destroyer” who “begged for nuclear war.” What really upset Trump was that Kim previously called him a “dotard” — a word that refers to a very old person “Why would Kim Jong Un insult me by calling me ‘old,’ when I would NEVER call him ‘short and fat?'” Trump tweeted on Saturday. He added, “Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!” (Slate)

5. Several Reddit users complained last week that sex toy company Lovense’s remote control vibrator app (Lovense Remote) was recording their orgasms without their knowledge. Users said they gave the app access to the mic and camera — but only to use with the in-app chat function and to send voice clips on command, not to allow recording when in use. Lovense issued a statement on Friday in which it described the recording as a “minor bug” that only affected Android users. It also says no information or data was sent to the company’s servers, and that the audio file existed only temporarily. An update issued since has fixed the bug. (Newsweek)
