1. Two people were seriously injured in a shooting early Monday morning on Wharf Street in the Old Port. Last Friday, Portland police announced the department is shifting resources to address large increases in violent crime in the city this year.
2. Hutchins’ Antiques, A historic antique shop in Ogunquit, was destroyed in a fire Saturday morning. Nine area fire departments battled the blaze that began in the attic.
3. Chronic absenteeism has increased in Portland public schools since the onset of the pandemic, according to a report released by the district last week. Nearly 25 percent of students missed at least 10 percent of school days during the 2021-22 year.
4. Portland’s first responders held a somber ceremony Sunday at Fort Allen Park to mark the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. As Portland’s Police Chief spoke near the city’s 9/11 memorial, flags were planted on the ground representing the firefighters and police officers killed.
5. Chipotle has ended a hack allowing customers to grab $3 burritos. The hack, as seen on social media, instructs customers to order a single taco with all the free toppings on the side, long with a tortilla, through the app. By slapping the goods together, it allowed you to save around $6 on a fully loaded burrito. Chipotle has now disabled the online option to order a single taco with the company writing that “…the current social media trend is resulting in a poor experience for our food, our employees and our customers waiting for orders.” Chipotle employees say the hack causes long wait times and wasted packaging.
