1. The police officer in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who shot and killed Terence Crutcher this week after his vehicle stalled on a local highway has been charged with first-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors said on Thursday that they had issued an arrest warrant for Betty Shelby, and that they were working with her attorney to bring her into custody. (CNN)
2. Three dozen juvenile herring gulls have turned up dead in Portland’s Deering Oaks park in less than a month, and city and state officials don’t yet know why. Three of the ocean birds have been sent to the National Wildlife Disease Lab in Wisconsin for testing. City and state officials said if anyone finds dead birds in Portland, they should contact wildlife officials at 592-0605, but should not handle the birds in any way. (PH)
3. A tanker truck carrying about 5,000 gallons of fuel tipped over Thursday night on a Gorham rotary, forcing a shutdown of sections of routes 114 and 112 after the truck started leaking fuel. Those roads were closed until early this morning. The Gorham Fire Chief says About 1-thousand gallons of the diesel fuel had leaked. (WCSH)
4. Fall welcomes Maine’s busiest portion of 2016 cruise ship season. In fact, the first day of Autumn saw the season’s busiest day with ships coming into Portland, Bar Harbor, Rockland, and Eastport. The trade group Cruise Maine projects Maine will see more cruise ship passengers visit its shores than ever before with a total of 283,000 passengers expected to visit by the end of October. (WCSH)
5. Another week, another new quarterback, another win for the New England Patriots. Jacoby Brissett had a 27-yard touchdown run in his first NFL start, LeGarrette Blount added scoring runs of 1 and 41 yards , and the Patriots beat the Houston Texans 27-0 on Thursday night. (Boston)
