1. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is retiring at the age of 83. President Joe Biden will get the chance to nominate a new justice. During his campaign, Biden promised to put the first Black woman on the Supreme Court.
2. Maine now has a backlog of 56,000 positive COVID-19 tests that have yet to be added to the state’s official case counts. The state is working to automate the review process to reduce the backlog. Hospitalizations dropped for a 3rd day in a row.
3. A nor’easter is taking aim at Maine and New Hampshire this weekend. Heavy snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding are on the table. The track of the storm will determine snowfall amounts (as of now 8”-18”).
4. For the first time, the Sea Dogs will have a woman as a member of the coaching staff. Katie Krall is joining the team in a hybrid role that involves on-field coaching and strategizing with the team’s front office. The Red Sox are the first MLB franchise to have two women on the coaching staff.
5. McDonald’s will add some of the most popular fan-created meals to its regular menu starting Monday. Hash Brown McMuffin – a sausage McMuffin with a hash brown inside; The Crunchy Double – a double cheeseburger with Chicken McNuggets and BBQ sauce added; The Surf and Turf – a double cheeseburger with a Filet o Fish; and the Land, Air, and Sea – a monstrous combination of a Big Mac, Filet o Fish, and a McChicken.
