1. By a 7-2 vote, The Supreme Court ruled that employers can decline to provide contraceptive coverage on religious or moral grounds. This could leave more than 70,000 women without free birth control. Two liberal judges sided with the majority.
2. The United States has surpassed 3 million coronavirus cases with over 132,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 20 new cases, no new deaths on Wednesday. The statewide death toll remains at 110 with 494 active cases.
3. Governor Mills issued an executive order Wednesday requiring large retail businesses, restaurants, outdoor bars, and lodging establishments in Maine’s more populous cities and coastal counties to enforce the state’s face covering requirement. Mills also extended the state of civil emergency another 30 days.
4. Amazon said it would pull all Washington Redskins merchandise after the team announced they were reviewing the Redskins name. Walmart, Target and Nike also said they wouldn’t be selling the team’s merch. The team said last week that it would be reviewing the name, long the subject of a debate.
5. Jordan’s Furniture first Maine location is set to open on July 17. The 2-story building in The Maine Mall will be the largest furniture store in the state. The store will also include an indoor multi-level ropes course with two zip-lines and a full-service concession stand serving hot dogs, candy, ice cream, popcorn, and more.
