1. A doctor from Kennebunk is facing federal charges, accused of prescribing opioids and other controlled substances to people who didn’t need them. Merideth Norris faces up to 20 years in prison on the most serious charges. (WGME)
2. A shortage of the drug Adderall is leaving Mainers without an important prescription. Experts say the shortage is largely due to severe staff shortages, uptick in prescriptions, and DEA regulations. The shortage could last until December or January. (WGME)
3. The Travis Roy Foundation is closing its doors. A Maine native, Travis Roy injured his spinal cord during the opening seconds of his first game at Boston University in 1995. The foundation raised more than $25 million over 26 years and awarded grants to more than 2,100 people with total or partial paralysis. A final donation will be made to the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston and the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. (PH)
4. C3 Presents, a division of Live Nation, (Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits) is proposing a music festival for Portland’s Payson Park in July that would feature multiple performers over two days and could draw up to 20,000 people each day. (PH)
5. In the not-too-distant future Apple will replace lightning chargers with USB-C. This comes as European Union countries have passed a mandate that all smartphones be USB-C capable by 2024. The change will probably occur for upcoming iPhone models. (Mashable)
