1. Pfizer is set to roughly quadruple the price of its Covid-19 vaccine to about $130 per dose. The shot, which costs the company about $1.18 to produce, will now be sold at a 10,000% markup.
2. North Berwick police confirm a 19-year-old is dead following an early morning crash Monday. Police found a Ford Focus on the shoulder of the roadway. Officials believe it hit several trees before coming to a stop. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
3. Some Maine school districts are desperate for bus drivers. This is forcing them to get creative. There is a sign in the Best Western parking lot in South Portland stating the district is offering free training in hopes of getting drivers behind the wheel faster. Other towns like Gorham and Falmouth are offering signing bonuses.
4. One of life’s biggest annoyances, going to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, just got a little easier. As of Monday, customers can now book an appointment instead of waiting in long lines.
5. The Houston Astros are headed to the World Series thanks to rookie shortstop Jeremy Pena. Pena was a star at the University of Maine, where he played three seasons for the Black Bears In game 4 of the ALCS, Pena hit a home run to help the Astros overcome an early 3-0 deficit. Pena was named ALCS MVP.
