1. Maine has begun processing thousands of positive COVID-19 cases from a massive backlog, adding nearly 11,000 cases to the official count Tuesday. The state has now streamlined the review process and is using an automated system to clear the backlog.
2. Gov. Mills is proposing giving $411 million to 800,000 Maine taxpayers. To qualify for these individual checks, which she estimates would come out to about $500, you have to file a 2021 tax return in Maine this year, be a full-time resident, cannot be claimed as a dependent, and you must have an income of less than $75,000. The first round of relief checks would be slated for July 1.
3. South Portland PD is investigating about a dozen car thefts that have happened since the start of the year. They told WGME “In every instance the key is left in the car and many actually left running.”
4. The White House is urging all Americans to leave Ukraine. Former Edward Little and UMaine basketball star Troy Barnies, has decided to stay. He’s playing for a professional team in the Ukraine. If Russia does invade, Barnies has a plan to leave.
