1. The suspect in a series of package bombings that killed two people and terrorized the city of Austin, Texas, this month is dead. The New York Times reports that the as-yet-unidentified male suspect killed himself by blowing himself up inside his car early Wednesday as police were giving chase. (CNN)
2. The owner of J’s Oyster Bar has been sentenced to jail for pocketing sales taxes paid by customers. From March of 2008 to March of 2015, Brown collected sales tax from patrons, but failed to turn most of the money over to the Maine Revenue Services. The AG says Brown underreported the restaurant’s sales and sales tax, which allowed her to steal more than $800,000. In addition to the jail time, Brown is required to pay $1.3 million in restitution. (WGME)
3. The world’s last male northern white rhino has died leaving only two females left to save the subspecies from extinction. The 45-year-old rhino named Sudan had been in poor health in recent days and was being treated for age-related issues and multiple infections. Researchers were able to save some of Sudan’s genetic material in the hopes of successfully artificially inseminating one of the two females left. (CNN)
4. Marcus Morris made a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left and the Boston Celtics stunned the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-99 on Tuesday night. With Kyrie Irving sitting out for the fourth straight game nursing a sore left knee and Jaylen Brown still in the concussion protocol, Tatum and Rozier continued to pick up the slack for Boston. ESPN The Mag published their “Dominance Rankings,” a cross-sport list of the 20 “most formidable, awe-inspiring and downright dominant athletes” of the last two decades, in honor of the magazine’s 20th anniversary Tuesday. The five-time Super Bowl-winning Patriots quarterback came in just under the wire, ranked 20th, behind the likes of former Giants slugger Barry Bonds (17), Angels outfielder Mike Trout (18), and boxer Manny Pacquiao (19). But it gets worse for Patriots fans. Brady is also ranked 17 spots behind longtime rival and fellow quarterback Peyton Manning, who placed third with a “dominance rating” of 12.7.
