- First Senate flip of the election. Democrat John Fetterman will win Pennsylvania’s Senate seat, and defeat Trump-backed Dr. Oz. (CNN)
- Gov. Janet Mills won reelection Tuesday. President Biden called Mills to congratulate her around 11:30 p.m. LePage did not concede but was heard late Tuesday telling disappointed supporters “next time.” Mills’ victory was assured after she secured huge wins in Lewiston, former Gov. Paul LePage’s hometown, and in Waterville, where he served as mayor for six years. (PH)
3A. 26-year-old community organizer Mana Abdi of Lewiston, won election Tuesday to a state House seat that will make her the first Somali-American lawmaker in Augusta. “Maine should be celebrating it,” Abdi said, because it’s a sign that the Legislature is growing more representative of the people it serves. It brings the state “one step closer” to a brighter future for everyone, she said. (PH)
3B.. There were 13 referendums facing Portland voters. Question 2, the proposal that would have changed the structure of city government and strengthen the role of the mayor, failed. Question D, which would have raised the minimum wage to $18 per hour by 2025 and eliminate the sub-minimum or tip credit wage, also failed. (PH)
- One lucky ticket holder in California beat the odds, winning the largest Powerball lottery jackpot ever of more than $2 billion. The Maine Lottery says there were two $50,000 winners. One ticket was sold at Clinton Variety & Pizza in Clinton and the other was sold at Rusty Lantern Market in Brunswick. (WGME)
