This is a Hip Hop Station right?! The ONLY Hip Hop Station in Maine, but where did Hip Hop’s roots originate? The documentary Hip-Hop Evolution is a 4-episode series which reveals the birth of one of the most prolific and popular music genres today, Hip Hop. The first episode called “The Foundation” discurses Hip Hop’s rise after the Disco era in South Bronx, New York. Hip Hop rose to power through the DJ Kool Herc’s backbeats in basement parties acted as the foundation to the genre. While Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five became some of the pioneer group aka the group we say “ohhhh I’ve heard of them”.
Episodes 2 and 3 follow the 1980s known as the Golden Age of Hip Hop when The Sugarhill Gang created “Rapper’s Delight”, listen here…”ohhhh I’ve heard that”. The 80s also welcomed the birth of the famous Def Jam Records. Def Jam Records have signed some of Hot 104.7’s favorite artists including 2 Chainz, Alessia Cara and Justin Beiber.
Episode 4 uncovers the introduction of Hip Hop to the West Coast where Gangsta Rap was born and continues to thrive. The West Coast produced some of the most notable legends like LL Cool J and Grandmaster Caz.
