It’s been 25 years since The Slim Shady LP was released to the world and we all got to learn the name of the that brash rapper from Detroit. In celebrating a milestone anniversary, Eminem decided to release a sort of behind the scenes video, made up of his Vevo footnotes, to break down the visuals behind the lead single, “My Name Is.”
One of the more funnier footnotes comes in the form of him addressing a long standing rumor that he was high on ecstasy during the shoot. Eminem says, “If you look closely at my eyes during the scene where I was dressed like Bill Clinton, it may look like I was high on ecstasy during that part of the shoot. But that’s just a rumor.” He went on to talk about how he had to adjust to being on set for such a big production for the first time, using 7’7″ former NBA player Gheorghe Muresan to play the ventriloquist, and more interesting tidbits that the general public probably didn’t know about.
He ends by saying, “I don’t think I could write an update in 2024, but maybe I’ll have them write ‘Bye, My Name Was…’ on my tombstone.” Perhaps a little grim to think about, but that would be so very Eminem of him.
