What a ride it has been for Newport, ME native, Cooper Flagg. Being thrust into the national spotlight in your formative teenage years can’t be easy, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who has handled it with as much grace and maturity as Flagg. Although his Duke Blue Devils came up short of their ultimate goal of a national championship this past season, their campaign was hardly considered a failure. A handful of their most prominent players will be making their way to the big league next year, with Cooper of course being the consensus #1 pick.
Just earlier today, Cooper took to his Instagram to make the announcement that he’ll be bringing his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA to reality this year. “Probably the best year of my life,” Flagg states in his announcement video, and something tells me there will be plenty more of those in the years to come. What are the chances Maine goes from no prominent staple NBA players in the league’s history, to having the consensus #1 pick in the draft? We can’t wait to follow the journey. Now, here’s to hoping he doesn’t land in…Philadelphia. We want to be able to rep his NBA jersey proudly!
