Downsizing is coming to theaters this Friday. The film was directed by Alexander Payne and it stars Matt Damon, Christopher Waltz, Hong Chau and Kristen Wiig. Critics and other film festival attendees have collectively rated it at a 6.3 out of 10 stars (IMDB). Arguably, the film could face some competition from Jumanji (In theaters today) or other films released during the holidays. This being said, given the fact that Downsizing is rated R, fewer families can be expected to go to this movie together.
Despite the less than the high rating on IMDB, the film has the potential to be immensely popular. The Film is characterized as “Comedy, Drama and Sci-Fi.” The trailer is very intriguing and addresses the daily financial stress and social situations that Americans face today.
The premise is, scientists have created a procedure that shrinks people down smaller than Barbie Dolls. This is convenient for those who are experiencing financial issues. Once you “downsize” you can live a life of luxury because you only need a few materials. The example given in the trailer was that one hundred thousand dollars became five million.
This might seem like a dream come true, but there could be some complications.
To begin with, the procedure to shrink oneself is permanent and irreversible; this separates the two worlds. If someone were to become small and regret it or miss people who are regular sized, there would be nothing they could do…
