And the award for 2019 Oscars host goes to…nobody! Variety reports that after Kevin Hart walked away from hosting next year’s Academy Awards thanks to his homophobic Twitter history, producers for next year’s ceremony are considering having no host at all.
“As of now, the situation remains fluid as the group’s leadership explores options, including going host-less,” the outlet reports. “The Academy is now said to be gun-shy about going with someone who might be too edgy…Then again, going too safe could be fatal for the show’s record-low ratings.” The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ board of governors is expected to meet Tuesday night about the matter, but an industry insider says, “They’re freaking out.” The 2019 Oscars are scheduled to be broadcast live on ABC on February 24.
