Last night, the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles hosted the BET Awards which lasted more than three and a half hours. Actress and comedian Regina Hall hosted the show with some upbeat and serious moments. She also made some efforts to recognize her hometown Washington D.C. during the show.
The show had some great moments including performances by Mary J. Blige after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. Rihanna had the honor of giving Blige the award and talked about her groundbreaking effort to introduce “a brand new vibe: hip-hop and R&B.” She also said, “On behalf of all the women who came after you, like myself, thank you for being you so we could feel comfortable being ourselves.” The nine-time Grammy winner has had a very successful career and definitely deserves this award.
Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus performed their catchy song Old Town Road. Lil Nas X’s performance was the first country song performed at the BET Awards. Times seem to be changing with people maybe accepting the cross between country and R&B music.

During the show, they honored the late rapper Nipsey Hussle with the Humanitarian Award, which his family accepted on his behalf. YG, DJ Khaled, Marsha Ambrosius, and John Legend performed a tribute for him during the show. For the family and everyone watching, it was touching to see the hip-hop community come together to remember Nipsey. Watch the video below:
Star couple Cardi B and Offset opened up the show. Offset opened with Clout and then was seated in a chair with his wife Cardi B dancing on his lap before she went into her song Press. Cardi B was also the most-nominated performer of the night and won best album.
