Nominees for the 93rd Annual Academy Awards were announced on Monday morning. “Mank” led the way with 10 nominations. Cape Elizabeth native Erik Messerschmidt got his first Oscar nomination Monday in the cinematography category for his work on the film “Mank.”
There are eight Best Picture nominees: “Mank,”
“The Father,” “Promising Young Woman,” “Nomadland,” “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Sound of Metal,” “Minari,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous Oscar nomination in the Best Actor category for his performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Last month, Boseman won Best Actor in a Drama at the Golden Globes for the same role. Viola Davis was nominated for Best Actress for her role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
Sacha Baron Cohen, “The Trial of the Chicago 7”; Daniel Kaluuya, “Judas and the Black Messiah”; and LaKeith Stanfield, “Judas and the Black Messiah.” received nominations for Best Supporting Actor. Maria Bakalova, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
The Academy Awards will be held on April 25th
