The Wu-Tang Clan made history down in Nashville! The group became the top-billed act to perform at the Ryman Auditorium, famously known as the Grand Ole Opry. For many country fans, this auditorium has the title of the “Mother Church of Country Music” and it has never had a hip-hop headliner in over a century as a music venue.
The show, performed on June 9th, at this landmark is part of the group’s 25th anniversary tour for their breakout LP Enter the Wu-Tang.
Sharon Sanders, a Grammy-winning musician, record producer, and a member of one of Nashville’s first hip-hop acts says that the “Ryman has had to grow up too, and had to grow up into what the city is, … the Wu-Tang is ready for the Ryman, but also the Ryman is ready for the Wu-Tang.” It’s about time the city has expanded with their musical acts!
Wu-Tang has certainly paved the way for more hip-hop acts. Hopefully we can expect more hip-hop acts bringing shows into the country music territory!
