Travis Scott is getting heat for continuing his Astroworld performance as fans were being shoved and trampled. Scott’s set began at around 9:04 pm Friday night. Emergency officials declared a “mass-casualty incident” at 9:38 pm. When Scott noticed an emergency vehicle in the crowd, he said, “What the f**k is that?” He then said, “If everybody good, put a middle finger up to the sky! You know what you came here to do.” At around 10:00 pm, two people climbed up to the stage and screamed to a cameraman, “There is somebody dead in there! There is someone dead!…Stop the show.” Kylie Jenner, who was at the event, said she neither she nor Scott knew what was happening during his performance. She wrote on IG, “I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing.”
A 14-year-old named John Hilgert was the youngest victim to lose his life at the Astroworld Festival. The young boy was crushed in the stampede Friday night. John was a 9th grader at Memorial High School in Houston.
On Saturday, the first lawsuit was filed in Harris County District Court.
Roddy Ricch is doing what he can to help after the Astroworld disaster. After performing at the event on Friday, Ricch posted on his Instagram Story, “I’ll b donating my net compensation to the families of this incident.”
