1. In only his third address to the nation from the Oval Office, President Barack Obama declared Sunday evening that the United States is equipped to handle the “evolving” threat of terrorism. “Let’s not forget that freedom is more powerful than fear, that we have always met challenges–whether war or depression, natural disasters or terrorist attacks–by coming together around our common ideals as one nation, as one people,” he said. “So long as we stay true to that tradition, I have no doubt America will prevail.” Obama’s speech was made in the wake of the San Bernardino shooting rampage on December 2 in which 14 people were killed by a self-radicalized Muslim couple.
2. Suddenly, a 2-game losing streak for the Patriots. The Eagles get touchdowns on a blocked punt, an interception return and a punt return and hand New England its second straight loss, 35-28.
3. A small earthquake hit Waldoboro on Saturday afternoon. The USGS reported the 1.8 magnitude earthquake happened around 4:03 p.m. In November, a magnitude 2.4 earthquake was measured 17 miles off of Bar Harbor.
