The 64th annual Grammy Awards took place in Las Vegas last night! Big winners Silk Sonic opened the show with a performance of “777”. Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak were committed to their 70s vibe the entire night. After multiple wins, .Paak said, “We are really trying our hardest to remain humble at this point. But in the industry, we call that a clean sweep.” They won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best R&B Performance for “Leave The Door Open.”
Trevor Noah got in an Oscars slap joke, saying “Don’t even think of this as an award show. It’s a concert where we are giving out awards, we will be listening to music, dancing, singing, keeping people’s names out of our mouths and we are going to give people awards all throughout the night.”
Questlove also referenced Will Smith’s smack across Chris Rock’s face, saying “All right, I am going to present this award and I trust that you people will stay 500 feet away from me. As they say, it is far better to give than to receive. Well, I’m not so sure about that because last Sunday it felt pretty good to receive.” Questlove’s Oscars moment was ruined; he won right after Smith smacked Rock.
Doja Cat nearly missed accepting her award for best pop duo/group performance with SZA because she decided to go to the restroom just before the nominees were announced. When she finally made it onto the stage she told the crowd “I’ve never taken such a fast p*** in my whole life!”
H.E.R. represented several genres by bringing out Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, plus Lenny Kravitz and Travis Barker for her performance!
Ukrainian President Zelensky appeared at the Grammys in a pre-recorded speech just before John Legend performed. In his speech, Zelensky reminded the audience “Our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded in hospitals. Even to those who can’t hear them. But the music will break through anyway. We defend our freedom. To live. To love. To sound.”
