When looking back on our childhoods, watching the classic PBS shows before and after school was one of the best aspects of being a child, carefree and without the stress of the real world. On Monday, Sony blessed us with the first trailer for the drama A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood that will star Tom Hanks as the kids TV icon Mister Rogers.
Marielle Heller is directing the film that is based on the 1998 Esquire article by journalist Tom Juno. It is a story of kindness triumphing over cynicism. The film follows a jaded magazine writer who is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers but is doubtful of Rogers’ optimism.
Heller said that the movie was shot in the original studio in Pittsburgh where Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was filmed and that the crew meticulously recreated the sets from the long-running show. They even borrowed items out of Fred Rogers’ wardrobe.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood opens in theaters on November 22 and we are so excited to feel nostalgic while watching this movie. Watch the trailer below:
