2. Maxine Simmons of Camden passed away earlier this month at 87. Simmons played first base and second base for the South Bend Blue Sox of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during the 1954 season which inspired the movie A League Of Their Own. Simmons is in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame. She was the first woman in the Maine Hall when she was inducted in 2005. (WMTW)
3. One of the planes that carries the U.S. president has made numerous passes over the Bangor area Tuesday. The low-flying plane is labeled with “United States of America,” and has the traditional blue markings and American flag on it. If President Joe Biden is on board, the plane is called Air Force One. 4. Local late night host Danny Cashman announced Saturday that “The Nite Show with Danny Cashman” will end in 2025. The Maine-focused late show, which features local celebrities, comedians, performers and more, has been on the air for 14 years. (BDN)
5. Maine Restaurant Week kicks off Friday and runs through March 12. Participating restaurants offer specials and discounts during a slow time of year, so locals get a chance to try a place when prices are lower and when it’s not crowded with tourists. (PH)
