1. A Manhattan grand jury voted Wednesday to indict former Marine Daniel Penny over the death of homeless street performer Jordan Neely. Penny reportedly faces second-degree manslaughter charges for putting Neely in a fatal chokehold while traveling on a New York City subway train last month. Eyewitnesses said that Penny and other men on the train restrained Neely after he became aggravated and yelled that he was “fed up and hungry” and “tired of having nothing.” Penny says Neely had also threatened passengers. 3. Old Orchard Beach voters overwhelmingly supported putting tighter restrictions on the size of the only adult-use cannabis store that will be allowed to open in town. Residents voted in favor of restricting the store to a building up to 1,000 square feet on a property no larger than a half-acre. Those opposed to the restrictions said they were designed to limit competition and favor one applicant because only one property in town meets those size restrictions. (PH)
