1. A New report shows a striking increase in weather-related power outages in Maine. As more outages occur because of bad weather, a federal grant may help the grid better contain disruptions. In Maine there have been 67 major outages because of weather since 2000. Of those, 29 have come in the past four years. (PH)
2. Julia Gagnon’s run on “American Idol” will continue after the singer advanced into the top 8 on Sunday night. Gagnon, who is from Cumberland sang “Here I Am” by Bryan Adams. 3. Coffee by Design staff have successfully joined a union. After voting unanimously and signing the contract, they are now the newest members of Local 327 of the laborers’ union. The Coffee by Design owner says she looks forward to working with the union. (WMTW)
4. Maine’s first professional soccer team officially has a name. The club announced Saturday that the team will be called the Portland Hearts of Pine. The club crest includes the Maine pine tree, deep blue water and a heart in the spirit of Portland’s Valentine’s Day Bandit. The club’s motto is “Lead with your heart,” inspired by the state’s motto, “Dirigo.” (WMTW)
