1. Heavy snow and high winds are battering the state this morning as a Nor’easter moves off the New England coastline. The storm is expected to taper off by Thursday evening. Mostly clear skies are being predicted for Monday’s eclipse. (WMTW)
2. As of 6:50 a.m. CMP was reporting about 169,200 customers without power, and that number had been rising quickly all morning. With strong winds, CMP cannot put crews up in bucket trucks because it is not safe. Crews were assessing the damage and did not have an estimate for when power would be restored.
3. NCAA women’s basketball star Angel Reese declared for the 2024 WNBA draft Wednesday through Vogue Magazine. Reese told Vogue she didn’t want to be “basic” and drew inspiration from tennis legend Serena Williams, who announced her retirement in the fashion magazine. “I’ve done everything I wanted to in college,” Reese said. “I’ve won a national championship, I’ve gotten SEC Player of the Year, I’ve been an All-American. My ultimate goal is to be a pro — and to be one of the greatest basketball players to play, ever. I feel like I’m ready.” (Vogue)
4. Orange flyers posted around downtown Portland warning of changes to city parking regulations are fake. The flyers, which pretend to be from the city’s parking division, warned that in “high tourism areas” and “during peak months,” parking rules would change. The changes include increased meter prices, higher fines and parking spots designated for out-of-state vehicles. City staff believe it may have been an April Fools’ Day joke. (PH)
5. The Pizza Joint has announced on social media that it will close both its locations – one in Portland, the other in South Portland – after nearly 50 years. The restaurants’ last day of operation will be Sunday, April 14. Hundreds commented on the facebook post with memories. (PH)
