2. Video of a brawl that took place at Montgomery, Alabama’s Riverfront, on Saturday night has gone viral. The confrontation was between several white boat riders and a Black riverboat worker. Local police said the dispute started when a pontoon was parked in a space reserved for a riverboat. The dockworker and one of the men on the boat began arguing. Someone attacked the worker, and several other men piled on. Authorities made several arrests at the scene. (WGME)
3. A man suspected of pouring windshield washer fluid over chairs and tables inside a Becky’s diner has been arrested. The suspect is also being charged with indecent exposure and had been arrested earlier for a similar incident at Starbucks. (WGME)
4. Androscoggin Bank is now offering mortgage plans without interest payments in order to comply with Muslim law. Some devout Muslims do not purchase homes as a result of the Muslim teaching that interest rates increase the gap between the rich and poor. The specifics of the Androscoggin Bank plan are not known, but other variations of the Islam-compliant loan elsewhere involve a bank obtaining ownership of all or part of a home, with payments acting as a means of buying back the home. 5. Stranger Things star David Harbour (aka Chief Jim Hopper) will speak Saturday in Monmouth. The event is a fundraiser for Theater at Monmouth, where he performed in the 1990s. (PH)
