1. Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson is responding to a report about a nearly 40-year-old incident. Jackson admits he punched a man during a fight when he was 19, later paying a $50 fine on a misdemeanor charge. The report also claims Jackson pushed his longtime partner, Lana Pelletier, afterward. Both Jackson and Pelletier deny that allegation, with Jackson saying he has never been violent toward her or any other woman. (WMTW)
2. Another great white shark sighting has shut down swimming at a southern Maine beach. A roughly 10-foot juvenile great white was spotted within 500 yards of Wells Beach Wednesday. Officials banned swimming for the rest of the day, the latest in a string of shark sightings along Maine’s coast, including Scarborough and Reid State Park. (NCM)
3. The Sanford Mainers are NECBL champions for the third time in team history. Sanford beat the Danbury Westerners 12-5 Wednesday night in the deciding Game 3, breaking it open with six runs in the seventh inning. It’s the Mainers’ first championship since 2008 and comes in their 25th season. (PH)
4. Cooper Flagg bobblehead night drew a huge crowd to the Portland Sea Dogs Wednesday. Fans started lining up as early as 8:30 in the morning for just 1,000 bobbleheads — and once the gates opened, they were gone in less than 19 minutes. Some immediately popped up on eBay, with asking prices ranging from around $250 to as high as $30,000. (PH)
5. Chick-fil-A is bringing Chicken & Waffles Sandwiches nationwide starting August 24th. The sandwich combines maple-flavored waffles, a chicken filet, bacon and honey butter, with syrup on the side.
