1. A former Scarborough police lieutenant is accused of collecting more than $10,000 in overtime pay for traffic details he allegedly never worked. Prosecutors say Timothy Barker also falsified reports to make it appear he had completed the patrols. Barker retired in February after 31 years with the department and is now facing multiple charges, including felony theft by deception. (WGME)
2. A bridge under construction over the Stillwater River in Old Town partially collapsed Thursday while crews were pouring concrete for the bridge deck. Three workers were injured, with one taken to the hospital with a leg injury. The bridge was already closed to traffic for construction, so no drivers were on it when it collapsed. The Maine DOT is now investigating what went wrong. (WGME)
3. Severe storms caused widespread damage across southern Maine Thursday afternoon. Portland recorded a 69-mile-per-hour wind gust and quarter-size hail, while more than 10,000 customers lost power. The Jetport lost power for nearly six hours, delaying 34 flights, canceling six and damaging two aircraft. (WGME)
4. Another great white shark has been spotted off the southern Maine coast, this time in Biddeford. The shark was reported Thursday near Granite Point, prompting purple warning flags at the city’s public beaches. Experts say white shark sightings have increased, possibly due to a growing population, warmer waters pushing them north and plenty of fish for younger sharks to feed on. (WGME)
