1. A statewide emergency alert about a “gunman at large” in Windham was blasted to nearly every phone in Maine Friday. Police now say it was sent late and by mistake. Officials blame a geo-fencing error, saying the alert was only supposed to target the Windham area after a deadly shooting. (PH)

2. A Maine police officer detained by ICE for overstaying his visa has agreed to leave the U.S. voluntarily. Jon-Luke Evans, a Jamaican national and reserve officer in Old Orchard Beach, was taken into custody after trying to buy a gun. By choosing voluntary departure, Evans avoids a deportation order but must pay his own way out of the country. (WMTW)

3. More than 140 people were rescued at Hampton Beach last week as powerful rip currents pulled swimmers out to sea. Lifeguards say the dangerous surf, fueled by Tropical Depression Dexter offshore, created sudden flash rips that caught many off guard. Swimmers are reminded to stay calm, float, and swim parallel to shore if caught in a rip current. (WMTW)

4. The Gorham Town Council is set to vote Tuesday on selling nearly 94 acres of town-owned land along Route 25 to Amazon for $4 million. If approved, Amazon would still need to bring development plans before the town’s planning board. (WMTW)

5. Hundreds of strange, curved objects washed up on Saco beaches this week had locals puzzled. Officials say they’re moon snail egg collars, made of sand and mucus and filled with tiny eggs. Beachgoers are urged to toss them back in the water or leave them be. (WGME)
