1. Henry Brooks, 46 years old, of Hope, drowned while trying to rescue his children at Seven Tree Pond in Union. His 12 and 13-year-old daughters fell into deep waters. Brooks’ son was able to swim to the girls and bring them back safely to a nearby dock. When he looked back for his father though, he could not find him. (WGME)
2. Contract talks between UPS and their largest labor union have stalled. The Teamsters want UPS to hire more full-time workers, increase wages, and institute stronger safety policies. UPS says it’s made reasonable concessions. The current contract runs through July 31. A walkout would be the largest single-company strike in U.S. history. 1600 Maine employees would be affected along with Maine businesses that rely on UPS for their shipping needs. (PH)
3. A solar storm forecast for Thursday is expected to give sky gazers in 17 states including Maine a chance to see the Northern Lights. The best viewing times are between 10pm and 2am local time. Cloud cover could spoil the event for Mainers. (WMTW)
4. Lisbon celebrated 3 days of Peace, Love and Moxie from Friday through Sunday. The 39th annual Moxie Festival drew thousands of visitors. Beau Bradstreet of Bridgewater claimed his 11th straight Moxie chugging championship by downing 7 cans in under 2 minutes. (PH)
