1. Dozens gathered in Portland’s Monument Square over the weekend as part of more than 70 anti-ICE protests held nationwide following the fatal ICE shooting of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford. Protesters called for the agency to be abolished while the investigation into the shooting continues. (WGME)
2. Four Democratic candidates have dropped out of Maine’s U.S. Senate race ahead of this weekend’s state convention. Shenna Bellows, Dr. Shah, Dan Kleban and Jordan Wood all suspended their campaigns, with Shah and Wood endorsing former Senate President Troy Jackson, who now appears to be the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. 3. A Maine State Police sergeant is being credited with stopping a wrong-way driver on I-95 in Bangor before anyone was hurt. Police say 60-year-old Lawrence Knowles was driving a stolen pickup truck the wrong way at more than 80 miles per hour when a trooper intentionally rammed the vehicle to stop it. Knowles now faces multiple charges, including OUI and reckless conduct. (WMTW)
4. Spain are World Cup champions for the second time after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time. Ferran Torres scored the game’s only goal in the 106th minute, giving Spain its first World Cup title since 2010. Argentina’s Enzo Fernández was sent off in stoppage time, forcing the defending finalists to finish extra time with 10 men as Lionel Messi and Argentina were held scoreless. (WGME)
5. The Red Sox have won 13 straight games for the first time since 1948 after completing a four-game sweep of the Rays with a 6-1 win Sunday. Boston has gone 18-2 over its last 20 games and currently holds the final American League Wild Card spot. They’ll look to make it 14 straight tonight when they host the Orioles at Fenway Park, which would move them within two victories of the franchise record of 16 consecutive wins. (MLB)
