1. Portland City Council has approved a new 180-bed shelter for asylum seekers on Riverside Industrial Parkway. City leaders hope this will reduce homeless encampments around the city. (WGME)
2. Portland police are investigating a fight that happened in a hallway at Portland High School. A 43-second video of the fight was posted to twitter and described as a knife fight, but the district is saying no knife was involved. Parents say they’re concerned about not only the fight, but the way school officials seem to be downplaying the incident. (PH)
3. Cities and towns across Maine will host municipal elections today. In Portland, residents will vote on a divisive rent control proposal that seeks to roll back the city’s 5% cap on rent increases for new tenants. (PH)
4. The Maine House and Senate have agreed to let voters decide about the new state flag. Gov. Janet Mills hasn’t yet weighed in on the bill that would ask voters this fall whether they want to replace the current state flag with one based on the design used until 1909 that consists of a pine tree and blue star. 5. Congratulations to the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets captured the first NBA title in franchise history on Monday night with a 4 – 1 Finals series win over the Miami Heat. Two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic (Nick-Ola Yo-Kich) was named the Finals Most Valuable Player. (ESPN)
