1. New data shows most people arrested during January’s ICE surge in Maine had no criminal convictions. Out of 192 arrests, just 12 had convictions and 27 had pending charges. Only 22 arrested were women, just one with a conviction. Most were from Angola, Ecuador, and Guatemala. 37 people have been deported so far. (PH)
2. A lawsuit is challenging a Maine referendum that would ban transgender athletes from playing on teams matching their gender identity. Opponents claim the petition includes duplicate signatures, unregistered or out-of-state voters, questionable dates, and circulation rule violations. 3. Westbrook’s fire chief says staffing shortages could lead to tragedy if levels aren’t increased. The department staffs nine firefighters minimum, below the recommended 15, and recent fires showed how limited crews can allow damage to grow. Chief Sloan said he will continue to ask city administrators for increased staffing amid a volume of calls that he only expects to increase. (WMTW)
4. Amazon is considering new large warehouse facilities in Gorham, Waterville, and Hermon, including a proposed 159-thousand square foot distribution center near the Waterville-Sidney line. Supporters cite jobs, while some worry about traffic. A public meeting is set for Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Waterville. (WGME)
