1. Organizers for the Great Falls Balloon Festival have formally rejected the City of Lewiston‘s proposal to help the festivities get off the ground this year. (WGME)
2. The Portland Jetport sent a proposal to the city to raise the parking rate from $14 a day to $15 a day for long-term lots. If approved, the new rates would go into effect on June 15. The airport’s director says with inflation, the price hike is under market rate. (WGME)
3. Nine Irish Setters seized from a home in New Sharon are now ready for adoption. In December, the Midcoast Humane took in the dogs. The shelter says the dogs were severely underweight, matted, dirty and reeked from lying in their own waste. The Humane Society says a court officially removed the dogs from their owner’s care last week. (WGME)
4. It was rare to see the Northern Lights in parts of America over Mother’s Day weekend but their second act is only days away. They’ll become visible again when the sun rotates in an Earth-facing position on June 6th, a night of a new moon. If the Northern Lights are near you, you’ll need to get away from light pollution and obscuring clouds for the best view. (LS)
